Oh god, I'm praying that this piece of news from Viggo's Celluloid Heaven is true and that the project comes through.
I adore the Alatriste books..
There are rumors - and I hope they are true! - that Viggo is in talks to make a Spanish movie. He'd tackle the role of the beloved Capitán Alatriste, who is a character that has been so successful, he's on his fifth adventure on the page. It's written by Arturo Pérez Reverte, who also wrote The Club Dumas in which Roman Polanski's The Ninth Gate is (loosely) based..... Agustín Díaz Yanez will direct and the film is set to start shooting in September, with an international cast, but in Spanish. According to the sources... Viggo met with the film maker in Berlin last December 10, and he said the only condition he had was to get a quality cast together.
